Women: Do Your Monthly Self Breast Exams – SBEs
Jamie Inman, a guest blogger on Life Script’s “HEALTH BISTRO,” reminds us that only 14% of Let’s think about “why” women don’t so their monthly self breast exams
(or SBE’s).
* Breast cancer does not run in my family…
* I’m a busy woman and I don’t have the time…
* I breast-fed my children, I can’t get breast cancer…
* It won’t happen to me…and the list goes on and on.
Breast Cancer won’t happen to me: Until the “C” word enters YOUR life, there is something in the back of our mind that prevents us from believing it can or will happen to us. (It’s almost like an “invincibility syndrome.”)
Well, NOT doing your monthly SBE’s, every month of every year, is a risk. A very great risk. It’s such a simple thing to do. It saves lives. Not only should you do your breast exams, you should encourage and remind your female friends to do the same.
In our Charleston plastic surgery office, we specialize in DIEP Flap Breast Reconstruction, post mastectomy. We see the tragedy every day. How much better to just do your self breast exams and potentially catch breast cancer early?
Women: Keep spreading the word. Be evangelists.
Self Breast Exams save lives.
